“In honor of myself, I will discard the expectations that I should be different, that I should let it go before I’m ready, that I should move on to something new. To honor you, I will love you as you were, as you are, even if that is the same as last month, last year, yesterday. I honor the particularity of moving to your own rhythm and finding your own pace. May we have the courage to begin again, every day, to take as long as we need with the things that deserve more attention, and listen to the ancient wisdom of our bodies that sit outside of time.”
-Hillary McBride

What’s Good

We are so happy to welcome Blissful Baker to Sunset Ridge Collective! The owner, Madeliene, is our newest commercial kitchen member and will also be doing weekend pop-ups at One Another Coffee to sell her sourdough bread, cookies, and other goodies. She sold out at her first pop-up on campus this past Sunday so be sure to get there early!

Event and Space Rentals

In addition to our coworking space, we offer room rentals of various sizes on our campus. If you need a temporary space to host an event or meeting, or if you are looking for a long-term rental of a private room, we’d love to talk more about your needs. Our spaces are intended for people working remotely, creatives, entrepreneurs, small teams and nonprofits.

We also have a licensed commercial kitchen that food professionals can rent for baking and prep. If you are looking for a space to work outside of your home and be connected with a community, please contact hello@sunset-ridge.org for more information.

A Message from Taryn

Taryn Tipton, Program Director at For Her

Just like Mae, who admitted a few weeks ago to being an ambitious resolution-maker, I also ring in each January with earnest cries of, “New year, new me!” This year, however, was different. I welcomed 2024 emotionally and physically spent, pregnant, and nursing a cold I just couldn’t kick. As much as I wanted to embody the most goal-oriented version of myself, I recognized this was not the month of high expectations and big achievements. And with a growing belly and a growing awareness of the impending changes in my life, I recognize that this is not the year I train for a marathon, become a vegan, read 52 books, or make a major career leap. Rather than conforming myself to the societal (ok, mostly internal) pressure of making drastic changes in January, I'm trying to embrace change and newness as they naturally unfold.

You would think by now I would have learned that a new year does not conveniently bring a new version of yourself and your life. Reflecting on my own journey, my first marriage ended in a devastating whirlwind one August, and last year, I remarried at the end of February. In the past, I’ve embarked on new professional endeavors in March and October. I will hopefully give birth to a healthy baby girl this summer. Old things die, and new things are born in their own time–a natural cadence that does not fit neatly into our calendar pages.

It turns out there is no predetermined timeline dictating when change should occur. I've come to realize that fresh starts and self-improvement rarely emerge on command. Instead, change usually sneaks in after weeks of unsexy, subtle shifts in daily habits. So, I’m learning to steward the newness into my life in small, consistent ways over time instead of demanding an immediate overhaul during the first few weeks of the year. It turns out that doesn’t usually work anyway; by this week each January, almost 80% of New Year’s resolutions have already failed.

The seasons of my life have their own rhythm and refuse to be contained by the boxes of a calendar, but I see they’re crafting a beautifully unfolding narrative of transformation. So, this year, I’m embracing a slower pace and a different type of resolution: cultivating a mindset that welcomes change in its own time. I hope the rest of 2024 will be a year of honoring the journey, allowing personal growth to unfold gradually, and relishing in the transformative power of small, intentional steps.
