“Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
You were bigger than the whole sky
You were more than just a short time
And I’ve got a lot to pine about
I’ve got a lot to live without
I’m never gonna meet
what could’ve been, would’ve been
what should have been you”— Taylor Swift in “Bigger Than the Whole Sky”
What’s Good
Sarah’s Heart is a volunteer organization that helps San Antonio area families celebrate and cope with life shortened by miscarriage, stillbirth and early infant death. Sarah’s Heart was inspired by the founder's niece, Sarah Anne Clifford, born an angel on January 26, 1989.
All are welcome to find community with this group on Tuesday, October 15th in the chapel during a remembrance service.
In The Darkness, We Find Light
Kimberly Turner, Personal Trainer & Yoga Instructor, Nyx Wellness
October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day—a day to honor all the babies who have left us far too soon. The hardest part of this kind of loss is that you’re not just grieving the baby; you’re also grieving the life they would have lived and the life you would have shared with them. In recognition of this day, I want to share my own story of loss and the meaning behind my business name, Nyx Wellness.
If you’re familiar with Greek mythology, you may have heard of Nyx. She is the Greek goddess and personification of night, born from the god of Chaos and considered one of the primordial gods, feared even by Zeus himself. She had many children, including the goddess of Day and the god of Aether. To me, she embodies a strong woman unafraid of chaos and darkness—a woman who brought light out of darkness. This is part of the inspiration behind choosing Nyx as my business name.
The other reason is personal: Nyx is my daughter’s middle name—Lilith Nyx Turner. From the moment I discovered I was pregnant with Lilith, my heart belonged to her. It was my first pregnancy, and I was filled with joy and anticipation. I imagined her prom, her wedding, and all the moments in between. I dreamed of the kind of person she would become and the relationship we would share.
On April 24, 2020, she was stillborn at 37 weeks, and I very nearly died with her. Afterward, I spiraled into a dark place, feeling utterly lost and heartbroken. But the strange thing about facing your own mortality and profound grief is that you begin to get comfortable with the darkness, and slowly, you start to grow from it. It is only in darkness that we can truly see the light. The pain is still there every day, but I have come to realize that my grief is the deepest expression of my love for her. It took time to find my purpose again, but eventually, Nyx Wellness was born—not just to honor Lilith by name, but to remind us all that great things can be born from darkness.
In the loss community, we have a saying: “Remember to say their names.”
Forever in our hearts:
Lilith Nyx Turner
